Food Mixers and Mincers Buying Guide

Food Mixers and Mincers

Food Mixers

Food mixers are the most popular piece of equipment in commercial kitchens – they are capable of doing so many different tasks and make food preparation a breeze!  Mixers can puree food, mix pastry, whip up mayonnaise, grate large quantities, and knead dough and so much more.  Many food processors come with a dough hook, beater and whisk as standard. Buy more than one food processor for a busy chef’s kitchen and consider different capacities too so you can create dishes in large enough quantities for your customers because mixers are ideal for removing the hard labour out of mixing large batches.  Choose the right size for your kitchen, from 4.8 litres right up to large commercial mixers able to cope with 40 litre loads.

Points to Remember:

  • Look where the blades are on the food processor, the lower down the position the more effective they will be.
  • Look for electronic speed sensor controls to maintain the speed under different load conditions.

Meat Mixers/Mincers

A meat mixer is designed to cope with chunky pieces of meat and is ideal for mixing sausage meat, hamburgers and mincing meat too.  The blades are very sharp and tenderise meat as well as mincing onions, garlic and other vegetables too.  They are extremely strong; they can mix meat in a matter of minutes as well as being able to cope with other food items.  Do remember, extra care needs to be taken when operating these machines.

Dough Mixers

Dough mixers are used for creating your own breads and cakes and have special dough hooks attached.  Able to cope with large capacities (up to 38 litres) a dough mixer is the ideal addition to any commercial kitchen.  They consist of a spiral shaped blade which stays stationary while the bowl moves round so they are exceptionally good at mixing dough in large amounts faster than a commercial food mixer.  It doesn’t matter how large or small the dough batch, the bowl can cope with any quantity.

Points to Remember:

  • Look for a lid that can be opened during operation so ingredients can be added as required.
  • Look for manufacturer’s warranty.
  • Look for equipment with castors so it can be moved around easily.
