A brief explanation of the catering industry
Catering is a part of the food service industry, it is the business of providing food and drink to a customer. This can simply be in the form of "over the counter" service such as coffee shops & cafe’s, through to canteens and restaurants. Event catering is where the caterer serves food at a designated venue similar to a banquet. In these situations food is usually prepared on site and presented in the form of a self-service dinner buffet or served by waiting staff.
Catering equipment is the broad term given to the caterers tools and utensils used to prepare, serve and present the food.
