Paper Hygiene Products: Environmental & Cost Efficiency

Read time 3 Minutes

Paper hygiene, whether in the form of toilet paper or all types of paper towels, is a necessary form of product that no household or business could do without.

With so many brands & varieties hitting the market these days, choosing the right kind of paper cloth for you can be a daunting task. However, a couple of questions when faced with this choice remain the same: “should I buy in bulk?” & “does it matter if it has a cardboard tube core or not?”.

Whether you should buy your essential paper rolls in bulk depends on your storage. Most bulk packs come in large cases. As long as your warehouse or stockrooms have enough capacity for these quantities, then why not. Toilet paper & paper towels aren’t exactly perishable goods. Whether your office has either 6 members of staff or 100, having several cases of centrefeed rolls on hand is better safe than sorry. The costs you’ll save overall that comes with buying any product in bulk will be a nice little bonus for your expense savings too.

In regards whether to go core or coreless, choosing a product without the cardboard tube in the centre, more options are appearing with the latter. It’s been almost 125 years since cardboard tubes were inserted into toilet paper for the essence of practicality within the means of production & use. The cardboard tube was added as a spool to ensure the sufficient tight wrapping of the rolls, without worry of distortion of the roll & seamless un-spooling of the product when it is in use.  Several years ago, companies such as Scott Naturals, have been able to create toilet paper with the need of a cardboard tube core, dramatically reducing the amount of waste. Around 17 billion cardboard tubes are thrown out each year in America alone, so can increase in these type of products will have amazing environmental savings in the long run.

The most impactful environmental innovation in paper hygiene however, is the selection of eco-friendly products available today. Tork’s conventional toilet rolls for example are made of 96% recycled materials. They even come in bulk packs of 36 that are also coreless, so that you can take away the satisfaction that you’re saving money as well as environmental impact. Even if you’re just looking for some efficient hand towels to proudly display above your sinks, an increasing range of hand towels are made of 100% recycled material with no sacrifice to quality. Some of the large & bulky blue, centrefeed rolls, ever popular for business use, are being made with the same amount of recycled contend, still being as strongly & absorbent to use.

With not much change in paper hygiene innovation occurring for many decades, it’s great to see an ever-increasing amount of manufacturers taking the initiative to give us the choice: buy the standard rolls of toilet paper & hand towels as normal or take some corporate social responsibility. Buy in bulk, save a bit of money but also save space in the landfills all at the same time.
